Sweet 16 birthday cards

A little over 16 years ago

my sister in law had triplet girls

Can you imagine 3 babies at the same time?

For their sweet 16th birthday

I made them each cards

These 3 nieces of mine

are just about as sweet as can be

Unfortunately I was late

with their greetings

So the Happy Sweet 16th birthday cards

were also belated birthday cards

These cards were 

easy as pie to make:

A few years ago I found the blank cards

with envelopes at The Dollar Tree

I think I got a package of 6

What a deal!

I printed the wordage from the computer 

on nice paper

cut out and glue sticked to the cards

then I added these cute little frames

and put cupcake stickers in them

Did you have a sweet 16 birthday?

I remember my mom hanging sugar cubes

 from the chandelier

 for my older sister's sweet 16 party.

BIRTHDAY CARDS

I never seem to find cards 

that say just the right things in the stores

Plus I hate to pay five bucks for one card, don't you?

My solution is to make my own cards

I don't always have the time to do this so I 

try to make a bunch at once

Just a few birthday cards I made recently

I found the blank cards at the Dollar Tree,

cut out decorative scrapbook paper shapes with

my zig zag scissors

and then glued them down on the card

and then..

 made up little birthday greetings on the computer

printed them on white paper and glued those

on the scraps of decorative paper and then

finished them off with a sticker or two

I also embellished the cupcake cards with 

stick on rhinestones

Don't you just love the cupcake stickers?

BIRTHDAY FUN BOX

For my niece's birthday last month

I wanted to give her an 

extra gift - a fun gift

She seems to like black and white

and is a very fun loving person

so I found a fancy box

decorated with snazzy shoes

and other pretty stuff

(I love the polka dots on the box)

I filled the box with fun

black and white stuff and 

then slipped in a box

of Godiva chocolate covered

strawberries

You gotta have chocolate, 

right???

I call these

 "Birthday Fun Boxes"

I love to go shopping for 

fun little stuff

WAY EASY TO MAKE SERVING TRAY

Not long ago I was at a local thrift shop 

and found a great white cabinet door

brand new, and got it for a song!

I knew right then and there 

what I wanted to do with it.

So I looked in the handle box until I found two handles I liked

Hubby later drilled holes where I wanted the handles to go 

and waa laa! A nice serving tray.

I didn't even need to paint it

but

I do want to decorate it somehow

Any of you got any ideas on that?

Christmas Tree Frame Ornaments

I made a few pretties for some 

of my coworkers

and family for Christmas gifts.

I found these cute little frames

at Target (they were plain, simple little

brass frames that hang on

the Christmas tree).

I painted the frames with glitter paint that

I got from the local craft shop.

I used purple glitter paint on this purple decorated frame above,

and red on the red decorated frame, and green on

the green decorated frame.

I basically had 3 colors of glitter paint that I used.

I put a coat of varnish on the 

dried glitter paint.

After the glitter paint dried, I added the stick on

rhinestones by dabbing a little bit of 

glue on the frame and on the rhinestone 

to help it stick better and then glued on the 

white fuzzy yarn around the outer and inner edge of 

the frame to give it  a snowy look.

They turned out really nice,

everyone seemed to like them.

Mr. and Mrs. Pickle

Introducing Mr and Mrs Pickle and little dill

Meet Ma Pickle:

Meet little Dill:

They are here to wish you

a very Merry Christmas!

I made a bunch of these

families and gave them away 

as Christmas gifts last year

I saved the Pickle family

for me

To make these really cute snow people 

you'll need the following supplies:

* White anklet socks 

(different sizes: Adult sock for Pa,

Child sock for Ma,

Baby sock for child)

* Pillow stuffing

* Bag of uncooked beans

* Fancy yarn

* Christmas picks from craft store

(I used the ones with white

and clear berry like balls)

* Glue that adheres to material

and other items like buttons, sequencs, etc.

* Angel dust or other glitter

*Orange sponge

1. Put enough beans in sock to fill up toe area

2. Stuff sock up to but not over the part of the sock

that is turned down with pillow stuffing

3. Turn down the top of the sock (there should be no stuffing in this area)

4. Wrap tiny rubber band around area 1/2 from the top of this turned down area

until it is wrapped tight.

5. You can cut across at the very top of the sock and fluff that area up

to make the top of a hat or you can leave it alone and form a hat with rounded top.

6. Glue on stick on sequences for eyes (I like using light green or blue)

7. Glue on small black sequences or buttons for mouth (use about 6 or 7 for the 

larger socks and 4 or 5 for the smaller sock) 

8. Cut a small triangle shape from the orange sponge and form to make a nose

9. Glue nose on

10. Wrap yarn around the neck and trim to look like a scarf

11. Cut one of the Christmas picks to use as an arm and glue on

12. Do the same with the other arm

(hint: You should be able to poke the pick into the snowman's side

and secure with some glue)

13. Glue on glitter or angel dust glitter

14. Spray or paint on clear craft varnish to protect areas that you used glitter and

other adornments on

These are a little time consuming

but make a very nice, 

inexpensive gift. 

Everyone I gave a family to

really fell in love with them.

We made a bunch of these about 7 years

ago for a church bazaar, which is 

where I got this idea from.

The church bazaar snowpeople

were not quite as fancy as these.

I merely added the "pick" branches,

glitter and sequences.

By the way the card in the background is my

first Christmas card received

this year (from my newspaper carrier)

Isn't it pretty?

BOTTLE BRIDE AND GROOM

I made these two bottle 

people for my niece and 

her husband 

last year to give them

as an extra wedding gift.

I think they are so cute

Love their expressions and 

how the expressions seem 

to change with the 

different camera shots at

different angles.

I got the bottles at the local

dollar shop where I also 

found their "outfits" 

(outfits were bride and groom 

outfits that slip over a 

wine bottle).  

I found the grooms hat at a local 

craft shop. I also added the pearls 

around the bride's neck and 

used stick on rhinestones for the 

eyes and mouths 

(I dabbed some glue under the 

rhinestones so they would

stick better) and then 

cut out noses from an orange

sponge and glued them on.  

I then added stick on letters at the

bottom of the groom that reads

"So Happy Together"

and their names on the 

grooms jacket

I glued white silk flowers on the

bride's headpiece in lieu

of a bouquet (since she doesn't

have hands to hold one with)

and then glued on some lacey

trim and more rhinestones

here and there 

and when all done with that

sprinkled some diamond dust

(really sparkly glittery stuff that 

I got at a local craft shop) 

on glue that dries clear

 and then when that dried I 

painted a few good coats of 

dry varnish all over the 

bride and groom

FUSSY LITTLE FRAMES

favorite posts of 2010

I just love these little frames

they have a permanent home in

my bathroom on a shelf over the sink

I found these sweet little silver frames not too long ago

and decided to "fussy" them up a bit

So I took out some of my beads

and embellishments

and this is what I came up with:

(below) I think I like this one best

Top middle is an earring of my grandmothers

from many years ago.

The rest are costume pearls and

vintage beads

(this was my dad's little sister as a child

many years ago)

(below) This one has vintage beads and like

the one above the top middle is an earring

of my grandmother's

I love the little bird at the top 

of the frame.

I also added a dab of glue 

to keep them secure

This is a picture of my dad and his

younger brother possibly in

the 1940's?

costume pearls to this one which

is a picture of my dad as

a boy 

I love collecting and displaying photos

in tiny frames.  Which one do you like best?

A SHADOW BOX OF LOVE

I keep seeing these really nice little

shadow boxes all over the place

decorated so nice and wanted

to try one myself

I gave one to my sister for her birthday

using pictures of my mom and dad

through the years.

I also added little snippets of 

letters they sent to each other and

a few daisies (my mom's favorite flower)

My parents usually signed their

letters and cards to each other with 

"See you in my dreams"

which I showcased at top in the middle

I even put a little glitter around

it to give it a little sparkle

My dad was in the Navy (go Navy!)

and was away from home a lot

during the earlier years in their

marriage. Their main way to communicate

was through letters - lucky us they

saved many of these

"love" letters

I got the little wooden

shadow box at the Dollar Tree 

(One of my fav stores)

I painted it blue

then copied photos and

glued them on, added some

embellishments and a few coats

of clear varnish

My parents are no longer 

with us but their memory will live 

in our hearts forever

Our whole family is photo nuts

and have photos all over the place 

I like the idea of making little shadowboxes

with a theme and plan to do one 

on my dad's career (Navy Pilot), my

mom's hobby (crafting/sewing),

our dog and some other 

things. Have you ever done
