This is an old photo
of my great grandfather
resting next to their
Christmas tree.
I am not sure how old
this photo is but it has to be
over 50 years old
How lovely that tree must have been
with delicate tinsel hanging
from the branches.
I remember when my own father
would stand in front of the Christmas
tree and spend hours hanging
tinsel, strand by strand.
He took such care to hang
each strand perfect.
I was thinking about that just the other day
and ended up buying some for my own
Christmas tree.
I have been hanging tinsel on my
tree for the past two evenings
when I can steal a few moments.
It is starting to have that
shimmery look that I love so much.
When I finish I will post a picture
I never met my grandfather but heard
so much about him.
He came over on the boat from Sweden
while he was just a lad
and later fathered 10 children.
He learned how to make shoes
while in Sweden.
After my great grandmother passed away
he lived with a few of his daughters
who never married. They
took care of their dad.
I have been told he had a dog
named Judy. He just loved Judy so much
that he would leave pieces of candy
in the chair for her.
After he passed away Judy was
very confused and sad
as she could not find the candy
anymore that my grandfather left for her.
I now understand where my own father's
love of candy came from.
Oh how I loved to hear stories
about our family from
my parents.
How about you?
Do you have any neat family
traditions or stories?

ReplyDeleteHappy Wednesday!
What a wonderful tribute post to your grandfather. And a lovely keepsake picture! I remember my grandparents also putting tinsel on the tree one strand at a time. The tinsel was the old "real" tinsel and it was carefully removed after Christmas and saved for the next year.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I could help you find a great deal! Thanks for stopping by.
