He touched my heart

I met a very special person today that I want to tell you all about.

I met him outside one of the stores I went to after work today.
He was in a wheelchair.

The sun was bright so I was unable to see his face well at first.
As he started speaking to me I noticed he only had one eye.

My heart just sank...

He asked me how my day was going
& after I responded I asked him how his was.
His reply was a very cheerful "I am so blessed"..

He went on to explain that a number of years ago he &
a friend were at his house getting ready
to go to a shooting range.

All of a sudden, he looked up
to see his friend pointing a shotgun at him.

He lost his left eye.

He showed me the scar on his arm where
they took skin for grafting.

He said the friend didn't think the gun was loaded.
They found a syringe in the bathroom later (belonging to his friend).

He then proceeded to tell me how this tragedy was a gift from God,
how he turned his life around after that,
found a wonderful wife & just how blessed he was.

Due to the extensive trauma he was told
by his doctors
that he would have very limited brain function.
They were soo wrong.

He told me God stepped in, minimized the brain damage &
gave him a second chance at life. With this second chance
at life he was now living for God and at peace
knowing he would someday be going
to Heaven..

Before this happened he knew he was surely on his way to Hell.

All I could think of was how horrible the pain must have been
& that I should be praying for him, when he
asked me if there was anything I wanted to pray about
I quietly mentioned my prayer request. He gently held my hand
& I heard one of the most beautiful prayers ever.
I don't know if I will ever see this man again but I will certainly think of him often.

Before I complain again about going to work or doing the dishes or
laundry or any number of things I pray that I will always
remember this special person who came into my life,
even if ever so briefly & how he
touched my heart.

What are some of your memorable heart touching moments?

  2. Julie, that is a wonderful experience! How touching, I appreciate you sharing it! Several posts ago, I shared an experience I had (and a photo) of a homeless man that totally changed my outlook.
Thanks for the sweet comments on my blog. I certainly appreciate your prayers for my back. Unfortunatley since I already have instrumentation in two portions of my spine, I have to be very careful with the types of procedures I do. I will be having a 4th surgery on May 12. I am really hoping this releaves some pain.

  3. Julie, that you for visiting my blogs. I was inspired by your blog just now. It is humbling to think I would complain about anything and someone like this man carries such a spirit of peace and joy. What a testimony. Thanks for sharing it and spreading some of that peace and joy with others.
