SWAP FINISHED (Well almost)

This is something that I redid for a swap I
participated in earlier this year.
I am entering this in the
"80th Metamorphosis Monday"
hosted by
"Between Naps on the Porch"

Hope everyone likes it.

I finally finished (well almost, have a few things to iron out) on my swap.
I received this old blue overnight case from my swap partner:

As you can see it's pretty beat up
but structurally in good shape

Upon opening up the o/n case I found an array
of pretty things; lace, floral material and even
a cute little pink chick

I started by ripping the inside lining out
A tedious job but one that had
to be done and then I glued tissue paper
to the outside of the o/n case
(this is the tissue paper that my swap partner
wrapped up the smaller items in)

Wasn't sure what I wanted to do with the inside
but ended up using the burlap and the
burlap strips with a red stripe
that was sent by my swap partner

I painted the hinges, lock and handle
with black paint
I then glued on this great little snippet of cloth
with a Paris scene on the top
and then coated the whole thing
with a few good coats of clear varnish

This is pretty much the finished product
I need to probably give it a few more good
coats of varnish and then it should be good to go
(to Paris, maybe?)

I haven't played with the other items yet (the lace,
ribbon, floral material and chick) but hopefully will sometime this
week and will post it when done.

This swap was so much fun, my first and
surely not the last! If you have not participated
in a swap by all means do it!

I want to thank Junk Market Style for hosting this
great swap and my swap partner http://www.thatssoshabby.com/
for sending the great blue overnight case filled with all that great stuff.

  2. Fun! Now, do you have to send that back to the person who sent it to you? That might be hard to give up!

  4. Way to GO!!! Julie,
I cover everything in Burlap :)
I just covered the wall of my shop whit burlap 4 feet up from the floor and use the same jute binding to trim the top as chair railing, I get the best comments from it.

Love that you create with burlap.
Burlap is the new Velvet !!!

Thank you for visiting my place and yes I keep myself busy creating it's something I do to relax.
